Toyota Etios Currently No Export Plans

Toyota gave its best shot in the emerging markets with the launch of its brand new sedan model Toyota Etios. The car is priced between Rs. 4.9 lakh – Rs. 6.3 lakh range which is the most competitive pricing Toyota could have planned.
The model has been launched as “World’s First, India’s First” and with this Toyota has big plans to gain a forceful larger market share in the Indian domestic market. Toyota currently lacks a serious presence in the small car segment which may be fulfilled in due course with the launch of Toyota Etios Liva – the hatchback variant of the sedan model.

Toyota intends to double its capacity in India and intends to sell more than 70,000 cars in the next calendar year. “We have recently increased our production capacity in the first plant. With the commencement of our second plant with an annual capacity of 70,000 units, we are looking at total sales in excess of 150,000 units next year. Half of the targeted sales will come from our new ‘B’ segment car, Etios,” Sandeep Singh, deputy Managing Director.
However, Sandeep Singh denied any plans of exporting the car to overseas market in the near future. Toyota expects a good demand from the domestic market and intends to fulfil the same first rather than keeping a long wait period catering to export market demands as well. The company has invested Rs3,200 crore to set up the second manufacturing plant as well as develop Etios for both Indian and world markets. The expected next overseas market for Toyota Etios is Brazil which may be in 2012.
